ABOUT THE HIKE
| Chicabal Lagoon | |
|
The majority of the inhabitants of San Martín Sacatepéquez are indigenous from the Mam tribe. For them, the Laguna Chicabal is sacred and miraculous - the mystic perception that becomes even more convincing because of the shape and the fog that shrouds the volcano. Maya priests perform traditional sacrificial ceremonies on the shore using candles, flowers and holy crosses. We’ll take you to the Laguna Chicabal with a local person as the guide. He will explain about the Maya religion, Maya culture and about the different plants and animals. |
