Approximately 2.500masl. Upward, the volcano is almost devoid of vegetation. The summit crater is about 250 mts. in diameter and about 50 mts. deep, open to the south and surrounded by concentric cracks and crevices, from which emanate weak fumaroles. North and east is a small plateau at the top, where another depression craters of equal size. For indigenous documents is also known that it was approximately around the year 1469. Its last eruption was recorded on June 3, 1853 when the ashes were thrown causing a blackout. The volcanic rock is apparently andesite. The guy is a strato-volcano. In the testament of Xpantzay, the year of 1554, referred to as the volcano during the period that was indigenous Choy Juyú |

The tallest of the three volcanoes dominating the lake, Atitlan's summit takes about 8 hours to reach; the reward is a breathtaking view of the world's most beautiful lake and Guatemala's Pacific coast. Elev: 3,557m (11,670 ft) Notes: Atitlan is a strikingly beautiful volcano with an almost perfect cone shape and covered with forest. The crater is 250m (820 ft) in diameter and 50m (165 ft) deep. This volcano has been active in recent times but is now dormant and the crater is dotted with various fumaroles. It is associated with Lake Atitlan which is situated in a caldera volcano which exploded millions of years ago and buried the region in ash, as far as Mexico. Alongside Volcan Atitlan is its twin, Volcan Toliman. All of these are part of a volcanic complex which includes San Pedro, Cerro de Oro and other features |
